When moving into a new home or purchasing a previously owned thermostat, you may find that the previous owner did not unregister their thermostat from their account. The thermostat must be removed from the previous account before you can add it to your account and control it from the Sensi app.
Please note that even though you can’t register the thermostat to your Sensi app to control it wirelessly, the thermostat still works like a regular thermostat to control your heating and cooling from the wall. So you will have full control of your heating and cooling from the wall unit while you wait for the thermostat to be removed from the previous account.

If you're going to move or need to transfer the thermostat to another account and you still have access to the thermostat in your Sensi app, you can remove the thermostat from the app.
Now, the thermostat can be set up on a different Sensi account.
